Nothing Was Working

I had not been sleeping well for weeks.

I tried my usual heavy hitters, lavender + serenity oil with a mixture of vetiver on my feet to try to ground me before I went to bed.

Taking a hot bath with oils and epsom salts + reading until I felt tired.

Loading up my diffuser, changing the sheets, running the air purifier.

Nothing.

Nothing would keep me from waking up in the middle of the night and staying awake for hours.

I was going through a stressful period of the project I am working on.

I told myself I have never been a “good sleeper” so this was probably part of the next phase of my life.

And even though I have helped so many people over the last few years to get a solid night sleep, I was back at what felt like square one.

At one point I threw my hands up and asked the universe to show me the way.

Turns out, the next day I was having a convo with a bestie and we were talking about sleep.

I confided in her that nothing I was trying was working and I think this was part of “being 40”.

Whether or not it was part of being 40, I just wanted to sleep through the night again sometime.

As friends do, she started troubleshooting it with me.

“Have you tried this?” or “what about that?”

But then she said “have you considered your adrenals?”

The year before, around this time, I had a serious bout of adrenal fatigue.

I had a hard time getting out of bed. I was exhausted daily, no matter how much sleep I got.

I was foggy, lacked clarity but thought I could just push through. You know, as women think they *should* do.

After seeing a holistic practitioner, I had a full protocol for how to get my adrenals back on track.

But even though this presented slightly differently this round, I decided to turn to my oils as we do in times of difficulty.

A bit of basil, rosemary, geranium, and some clove in a roller bottle. Dilute with carrier oil.

I rolled it on my lower back and slipped into bed.

I slept.

THE WHOLE NIGHT.

I woke up feeling completely refreshed.

I slept. THE WHOLE NIGHT.

I woke up feeling completely refreshed.

Again and again, I am reminded of the power of plant medicine.
These oils have supported me in so many ways and continue to amaze me with what they can do.

As I write this, I am already looking forward to my sound sleep tonight.

Because sleep = recharging for me to be able to do the things that really light me up during the day.

Below I have the roller bottle blend that I use. I can not recommend doTERRA essential oils enough, they are pure + potent. I have used essential oils for years and when I was introduced to these, it was like the world of oils got brighter.

If you want to know more about how I use them, our oil community, my team, or have any questions, feel free to email me at hello@elliemcmillan.com.

Of if you are super independent and want to order on your own, you can go directly here to purchase.
